Day five folks...
me and
Beth last Halloween

Well another day over and done...
I was working today, again not a bother.
I swear I feel like a fraud??
Did I really need the provigal?
How come its been so easy to stop taking it?
How come I feel the same/if not better than if I was on 400mg a day?
It has to be the gluten?
Before this week I would have taken 200mg at 8am, then 200mg at 12pm except on my days off, when, I would have tried to manage on just the morning one.
On those days I would have a nap at 1.40pm  after I'd picked my little girl from school, but a lot of times I wouldn't have even lasted that long.
By maybe 7 o'clock I'd be ready to pan out for the evening!!
I even ended up going to a meeting last night till about 11 o'clock.
I was working today and I took my nap at 1 o'clock and was grand again for the rest of the day.
My boss has even noticed I'm doing better. I haven't told him I'm off one of my pills and gluten.
He said "Jesus Mar your in great ould form this last few days, your flying"
So I guess its going good!
See ye tomorrow!!!

Beth going for a spin on harry with her cousin
I am hoping I might be the one to teach my little girl to ride.
Wouldn't that be something??

So what are we at here?
Oh ya day four gluten free

Just had a lovely jubbley roast chicken dinner
Spuds loads of veg, a roast chuck, and even gravy!!
All gluten free of course..
Oh and a cuppa tea and two chocolate biscuits for after..

I has a day off today so got little lady off to school done a heap of ironing, walked the dog bla-bla-bla
No provigal again today just anafrinal for the cataplexy
but I only took 3 instead of four today.
I missed my 1 o clock nap, I just didn't think of it..
By five i needed it though!!
I took half an hour and off I go again..
I'm all done now so i might even sit and watch a bit of TV.
I've had no cataplexy all week either, but maybe nothing was that funny?
Although did have a right laugh a work yesterday?
I don't know i hate being cynical but you know they say if something seems to good to be true... it usually is!!!
But still so far so good!

Anyway chat soon xx

Day 2
Tuesday the 2nd of October

Well day one got off to a bad start.  I took my pills in the morning only to find out Provigal has gluten in it.... ahhhhhh
Anyway whats done is done,so i decided not to take my second dose, and continued on my GF mission.

I got a book on coeliac disease as coeliacs need to be completely gluten free, so I figured I need to do it wholeheartedly. I knew dam all about it, and it was a real eye opener!! So I would defiantly get a book like that.. Then I just planned a day ahead. Scrambled egg for breakfast, salad for lunch and fried mince with veg cooked wih a knor stock pot and mash.. Yummy , for snacks I had rice cakes, yogurt, and fruit!! Easy peasy! It's definitely worth a try!
Also I've started a Facebook account for teens/ secondery students with narcolepsy to chat to each other about what they're facing and how they are getting on with it. It's under the name "Yawn Ireland" I'm there to answer any questions they might have. And introduce them to each other. I really think it is something that can help them get to grips with things.
Now back to my mission... it was my first full day off Provigal.  I had been on 400mg a day and even if i missed one by a couple of hours i would know it..
Today I didnt even miss it. I had my usual nap at lunch time and was fine driving there and back. I even done a few jobs when i got home!!!
Surely the Gluten free thing couldn't be working so quickly???

(by the way i am not incouraging anyone to give up any medication..) I am just telling my story, fact not fiction, the good the bad and the ugly...

Gluten free for narcolepsy: gluten free for narcolepsy

day 3... october 3rd

Well guys day 3 gluten free

Well I've just done my third day and I'm still awake... I haven't taken provigal since Monday morning and I have to say I'm feeling great!! Now I have been very good about not using the phone when I wake up at night so maybe that's helping too.
I was working yesterday and today and was fine driving there and back. I had my nap at lunch time like always but really wasn't tired.
Surely the gluten free thing couldn't be working this quick?? Thankfully there is a good bit of gluten free food in tesco.. Reading the labels is a pain in the arse though, and takes ages so I just done a little yesterday evening..
Dinner is easy as meat and veg and spuds are all GF.. Knor stock pots are too. I got GF pita breads they taste grand and filled them with chicken peppers mushrooms with chilly powder and creme fresh!! Yum!! I have to say its easy so far just takes a bit of planning!!
 Chow for now!!
Meet Seamus my pooch!!

gluten free for narcolepsy

hello all

Ok so the story so far.... Iv been diagnosed with narcolepsy for nearly 10 years now.. im on a fair bit of medication, which i hate, but without it i,m falling around the place like a bad drunk. do medication is my only option!! or so i thought.
Iv been researching and apparently going gluten free has put narcolepsy into remission for some people...  wouldn't that be something.. so im going to log my progress and see how it goes....
so as it is i get up weekdays at 8am... ahhhh noooo stop alarm please......
Every morning comes as a complete surprise to me... Anyway i drag my sorry ass out of bed, take my medication. 200mg provigil and 20mg of inafrinal... i weigh myself as putting on weight when you have narcolepsy is one thing we can do well.... ahhhh 176lb,  the same for the last 3 weeks... feck it and i was a really good girl, on low GI for the last 5 months at least.  Iv lost 20lb, but nothing in the last 3 weeks... at least i didnt go up....  so get daughter out to school for 9am( just about).. Had great intentions of cleaning. taking dog for walk, doing the ironing...  Guess what???? Its now 12.12 and iv nothing done.... except 2 cups of coffie drank and eaten an apple, yogurt, and two gluten free rice cakes...Oh and smoked 2 cigarettes....
So Im going to take 200mg more provigil, and 20mg anafrinal..Then have a little nap B4 i pick up daughter at 1.40pm. Then its homework, followed my swimming lessons for my little 6 year old, i might hop on the treadmill for 15 minutes then hit the pool for 3.00 pm.
